a walk across an old mountain
On a quiet April morning in 2014, two friends set out into the folds of Nelson County, Virginia, to wander the remains of an old mountain. What they found was not just a landscape, but a story written in ruin and renewal: collapsed fences tangled in vines, barns surrendering to time, a piano gathering silence behind glass, and paths winding toward fields lit by spring light.
These photographs are not about grand vistas but about the traces of what endures—fragments of human presence set against the persistence of the land. They mark the delicate balance between memory and forgetting, between the built world and the natural one reclaiming it.
a walk around an old mountain is both document and meditation: a record of a morning’s walk, and an invitation to reflect on how history lingers in places, how lives echo through what has been left behind, and how the act of walking itself becomes a form of remembering.
